MPS Seminar:Observations of slow and transverse waves in polar plumes (Vaibhav Pant)
Magnetohydrodynamic waves play a crucial role in heating the solar corona and accelerating the solar wind. Recent observations have provided evidence of longitudinal intensity perturbations, as observed by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), and transverse wave propagation, detected using the Coronal Multichannel Polarimeter (CoMP) and AIA/SDO, in polar plumes. However, there remains a gap in our understanding of these waves' propagation in fine strands due to the lack of high-resolution imaging in polar regions. In this presentation, I will discuss the coexistence of longitudinal and transverse oscillations in polar plumes. We utilize high spatial and temporal resolution images from the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) aboard the Solar Orbiter. Our preliminary results indicate the co-existence of longitudinal and transverse oscillations within the strands of polar plumes.
