SUSI: Thermal Vacuum Test of Flight Components Completed
All mechanical components of the SUSI instrument successfully tested in the thermal vacuum chamber.
The instruments on board the Sunrise III mission have to withstand extreme conditions. During the ascent phase the balloon will traverse the tropopause with temperatures down to -70 Celsius. In the startosphere, the air pressure is only a few millibar, a challenging regime for all electronic components.
All conmponents of the SUSI instrument were tested under flight conditions for their functionality. The test results indicate that the flight hardware of SUSI has been designed and built perfectly well to cope with those conditions.
