The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Göttingen is one of the world's leading research institutions in the field of solar physics and planetary research with around 300 employees. The interdisciplinary research focus is the investigation of the development, diversity and dynamics of planets, moons, small bodies, the sun and solar-like stars. The MPS develops and operates scientific instruments for current and future space missions (e.g. ESA, NASA), and carries out cosmochemical laboratory investigations of meteorites as well as numerical modeling on state-of-the-art supercomputers.

For the development of the Photospheric Magnetic field Imager PMI (https://www.mps.mpg.de/pmi) for the ESA’s VIGIL mission (https://www.esa.int/Space_Safety/Vigil), the institute is looking for a Electronics Engineer (f/m/d).

Your Tasks

As an electronics engineer, you will work as part of a team on electronics hardware developed for a scientific space instrument in collaboration with the project team and international external partners.

You should have

  • a university degree in the areas of electronics, or related fields.
  • a good knowledge of analogue and digital circuit technology
  • the ability to develop analogue and digital electronics hardware independently
  • knowledge of common programming tools (Python, etc)
  • a good command of English
  • a strong physical and technical understanding
  • a structured way of working and be able to track and document your work
  • willingness to participate in international business trips.
  • wllingness to work in clean rooms and to comply with the required regulations

Advantageous would be experience with / knowledge of:

  • the development of analogue and digital electronics from design to test and operation
  • high reliability electronics following MIL or ESA Standards
  • experience with the design of FPGAs (e.g. Microsemi RTAX or Xilinx Ultrascale)

Employment Conditions

The full-time position is to be filled as soon as possible and limited for 2 years, with the possibility of extension.

The remuneration will be in accordance with TVöD-Bund up to EG 13, , if the objective and subjective classification requirements are met. This will be assessed separately on the basis of the respective professional qualifications and previous professional experience and should not necessarily be expected. The social benefits correspond to the regulations for the public service (federal government).
